Herbst 2025 Ein Gastronomie-Projekt hat die Kinder im Elementarbereich der Kita Kinderwelt@Desy im Herbst beschäftigt. Die aktuellen Vorschulkinder bildeten mit 6 weiteren Kindern des Elementarbereiches eine Projektgruppe und gaben ihrem Projekt den Titel „Herzlich Willkommen im Kinderrestaurant“.
Projektarbeit bei uns bedeutet, dass die Kinder sich über einen längeren Zeitraum mit einem bestimmten Thema auseinandersetzen, das auf ihren Interessen basiert und in allen Schritten ihre Partizipation voraussetzt. Es ist also das Projekt der Kinder, die Fachkräfte stellen eine Begleitung dar, statt durchgängig Anleitung zu sein.
Insofern fand sowohl die Themenauswahl, als auch die Planung von Ausflügen und Aktivitäten mit den Kindern zusammen statt. Nachdem die Kinder sich selbst den Themenbereichen „Kochen“ und „Backen“ näherten, indem sie Rezepte erkundeten, einkaufen gingen und eigenständig Speisen zubereiteten, erkundeten sie in Begleitung von einer Fachkraft und freiwilligen Eltern auch die gastronomische Umgebung.
Bei dem Besuch der DESY-Kantine und der DESY-Cafeteria machten wir Bekanntschaft mit Bella (BellaBot), einem Kellner-Roboter, welcher das benutze Geschirr von den Tischen in die Küche brachte, das beeindruckte viele Kinder.
In der Kita fand dann ein Prozess statt, des sich mit dem Aufbau eines eigenen Restaurants befasste, das hatten die Kinder sich als Ziel für das Projekt gesetzt. In den Projektzeiten setzten wir uns außerdem mit Ernährung und Gesundheit auseinander, ein Kartenset zur Ernährungspyramide unterstützte bei der Erkundung.
Durch großzugige Spenden von Eltern bauten die Kinder gegen Ende des Projekts ihr eigenes Restaurant im Vorschulraum mit diversen Küchenutensilien auf. Kurz vor unserem Projektabschluss besuchten wir die Küche unseres Trägers in der Kita Heidberg, in der täglich das Mittagessen für unsere Kita zubereitet wird.
Dirk, der Koch, führte uns durch die Küche, den Kühlraum und das Lager und konnte viele Fragen der Kinder beantworten.
Der Projektabschluss bildete dann die Eröffnung des eigenen Restaurants im Vorschulraum. Unter den Eingeladenen befanden sich Familienmitglieder der Kinder, aber auch ein Ehepaar aus der Nachbarschaft, welches wir bei Ausflügen zum Markt kennengelernt hatten. Die Kinder servierten ihre selbst zubereiteten Speisen, es gab Salat oder Rohkost als Vorspeise, Pizza als Hauptspeise und zum Nachtisch Waffeln.
Zu Musik und mit Blumen auf dem Tisch fand ein angeregter Austausch statt und durch eine kleine Ausstellung im Vorschulraum aus Skizzen, Modellen und Bildern der Kinder zum Projekt, kam die Arbeit der Kinder zur Geltung und erfuhr jede Menge Wertschätzung.‘
Gerade dieser Abschluss, der Stolz und die Freude, die die Projektkinder dabei ausstrahlten, ermutigte mich als pädagogische Fachkraft weiterhin in Projekten mit den Kindern zu arbeiten.

Our project: a real children’s restaurant
Fall 2025 A gastronomy project kept the children in the elementary section of the Kinderwelt@Desy childcare center busy in the fall. The current preschoolers formed a project group with six other children from the elementary section and gave their project the title “Welcome to the Children’s Restaurant.”
For us, project work means that the children spend a longer period of time exploring a specific topic based on their interests, with their participation required at every stage. It is therefore the children’s project, with the staff providing support rather than constant guidance.
In this respect, both the choice of topics and the planning of excursions and activities took place together with the children. After the children had familiarized themselves with the topics of “cooking” and “baking” by exploring recipes, going shopping, and preparing meals on their own, they also explored the gastronomic environment accompanied by a specialist and volunteer parents.
During our visit to the DESY canteen and cafeteria, we met Bella (BellaBot), a waiter robot that brought used dishes from the tables to the kitchen, which impressed many of the children.
Back at the daycare center, the children then set about building their own restaurant, which they had set as their goal for the project. During the project, we also explored nutrition and health, using a set of cards depicting the food pyramid to aid our exploration.
Thanks to generous donations from parents, the children built their own restaurant in the preschool room with various kitchen utensils towards the end of the project. Shortly before the end of our project, we visited the kitchen of our sponsor at the Heidberg daycare center, where lunch is prepared for our daycare center every day.
Dirk, the cook, showed us around the kitchen, the cold storage room, and the warehouse and was able to answer many of the children’s questions.
The project concluded with the opening of our own restaurant in the preschool room. Among the guests were the children’s family members, but also a couple from the neighborhood whom we had met on trips to the market. The children served the food they had prepared themselves: salad or raw vegetables as a starter, pizza as the main course, and waffles for dessert.
Accompanied by music and flowers on the table, a lively exchange took place, and a small exhibition in the preschool room featuring the children’s sketches, models, and pictures of the project showcased their work and earned them a great deal of appreciation.
It was precisely this achievement, and the pride and joy that the children in the project radiated, that encouraged me as an educational specialist to continue working on projects with children.
