November 2019 What a beautiful time of the year! Leaves are changing colours, new smells in the air,
fruits and vegetables everywhere… and we at Kita Langenfelder Damm like to take the opportunity to reflect on what we are thankful for this past year. That‘s why we invite our families to the Kita for Thanksgiving every year.
What is autumn? We talked about what we do for Thanksgiving in our families and our cultures: in Canada for instance, we celebrate with turkeys and pumpkins and red and golden leaves. Here in Germany, we collect chestnuts, corn, apples, crunchy leaves…We also make lots of soup and spend wet and windy days outside while eating and drinking warm things inside.
What are we thankful for? The children said they are thankful for friends, good health, toys and our Kita. We sat together with our parents and grandparents and spoke about what everybody was thankful for, we sang ‚Der Herbst ist da!‘, enjoyed a delicious potluck buffet brunch and had a few activities to choose from: making a pumpkin soup, making little chestnut figurines or playing ‚Pin the feather on the turkey‘. We had a very fun time together!
